Meet Me In San Fransisco

Hi everyone - Nicole Laborte here again (orchestra librarian and violinist).

I'm currently sitting in my lovely hotel room in Oakland, California. It's about 11:30pm and a very enjoyable 55ish degrees with clear skies. Our wifi is slightly sketchy slow so I'm typing this via the glory of 3G (please pardon the iPhone typing errors if and when they occur)!

This morning started off bright and early at the crack of dawn (complete with Silent Hill-esque fog). We were slightly late leaving PLU due to our trombonist sleeping through her alarm - oops!

Our flight departed from Sea-Tac right on time, taking a little under two hours to arrive. Very uneventful other than celebrating our clarinetist's first flight with lots of reassuring mutterings of, "This is normal."

We landed in Oakland, climbing aboard our charter bus. Thankfully none of our cellos (which had to be checked) were seriously injured on the flight over other than a minor bridge slip.

Our hotel for the evening is a quaint little set up with a square of rooms with an outside pool (sadly no jacuzzi tub in sight). We threw our stuff down to catch a ferry across the Bay to San Francisco.

The ferry was quite fun for everyone - I got to reenact the famous Titanic end of the boat arms out scene (minus the whole iceberg part).

Upon landing on the San Fran side, we headed straight to the In-and-Out Burger. So delicious, and a thousand times better than Dick's!

We walked up and down the touristy piers, buying unnecessary but necessary touristy things. Eventually we took a "historic" streetcar back to our meet up location. Here we found this cool local market where we purchased fresh meat, cheese and sourdough bread for dinner.

After hopping back on the ferry to Oakland, most of us hung out and played card games before heading to bed. We're up bright and early tomorrow for high school exchanges and adventures!

Stay tuned,
Nicole Laborte
